June 11, 2019 is the School Budget Referendum Election. It is very important that you as a resident of Freedom get out to VOTE because two more articles will be on the ballot.

The first one is a recall petition for the recall of Selectman C. Ronald Price for the following stated reasons: 1. Repeated violations of the Select Board Code of Ethics. 2. Continued conflict of interest regarding town business decisions/actions and personal/family gain. 3. Abuse of the office of Selectman. The petition required 38 signatures and a total of 51 people signed it.

The second recall petition is for the recall of Selectman Steve Bennett for the following stated reasons: 1. Repeated violations of the Select Board Code of Ethics 2. Abuse of the office of Selectman. The petition required 38 signatures and a total of 53 people signed it.

Please take this seriously and get out and VOTE.

On the petitions, 95% of the signatures were residents of South Freedom. Also mostly all of the residents that signed the petition do not attend any or all the selectmen's meetings, special town meetings or the yearly town meeting.

I was asked by a resident, “How can I help?” My response to her and to anyone else is to spread the word about the recall, and let your family, friends and neighbors know how important it is for them to get out and VOTE! This is one very important election and there has to be a good turnout.

I would like to add that more research is being done regarding a possible shutdown. Also my intent was not to belittle Ms. Littlefield; it was my way of reporting the petition from the beginning to the time it was submitted to the Town Office.

Absentee ballots are now available at the Town Office.

So have you been like me, a Freedom resident who has been making a concerted effort to reduce your plastics consumption and hoarding your #1 and #3-7 plastics until a better option than landfill opens up?

If so, congratulations on doing your part to make a difference!

Also, I’m happy to announce that Freedom is next in line to start sending our trash to Coastal Resources (Fiberight) starting next week!

What that means for Freedom residents: no change to our regular weekly pickup schedule, but now the #1 and 3-7 plastics that have been going in the trash (or hoarded) will be processed at the new Coastal Resources facility by either bundling for recycling (#1) or repurposed into fuel pellets (#3-7), rather than going to a landfill!

Freedom is still an active member of UARRC, so we’ll be continuing with our monthly curbside pickup of recyclables (#2 and stretchy films for plastics, along with the other items eligible for curbside recycling), and drop-offs at the Center.

New flyers regarding acceptable recycling are available at the town office, the recycling center, and at UARRC’s website

Remember, small electronics, batteries, and light bulbs should NEVER go in the trash. Please continue to bring these to our friends at UARRC.

Thank you for doing your part to make this world a cleaner place. Reduce and reuse what you can, compost, and recycle the rest!

Voice of Freedom

Birthday greetings go out to Erna Keller, Ruth Smith and Steve Shaw, who all celebrated their special days with family and friends. Wishing you all many more years filled with joy, happiness, good health and love. Happy birthday!

Spring is here but one wouldn’t know it because it is still quite chilly, rainy and dreary. I wish the sun would come out and stay out! I guess it will happen eventually but in the meantime…

Stay well, stay safe, be kind to your neighbor and God bless!
