Family and friends of Delvin Bradstreet, 65, of Searsport are rallying together to help raise emergency funds for medical bills, medication and general living expenses.

According to his son Chris Bradstreet, his father was recently diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer and "even though he wants to, he cannot work."

"He is one of the most amazing and strong men I know," Chris Bradstreet said on a Gofundme page created to benefit Delvin Bradstreet. "He is a father of three and a grandfather of 11."

Bradstreet said his father's treatment will be "intensive, expensive, and time-consuming." Without income or insurance, his parents will need whatever extra financial support they can get, he said.

"I hope that by creating this fundraiser I can get them some extra help so that it is one less thing he needs to worry about right now," he said.

The Bradstreet family posted an update recently on the same Gofundme page, noting Delvin Bradstreet continues to keep a "brave face on" but the worry is evident.

"Not just about his health and the struggle ahead but also about money and making sure things are taken care of," the family update reads.

A benefit potluck supper and bake sale is planned for Friday, May 31, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the Tarrantine Tribe No. 13 event center, located at 153 Main St., across from Belfast Plaza.
