On Thursday afternoons at Rockland Golf Club there will be an extra level of excitement in the air and that energy flows from the young golfers learning the game of golf and the life skills that accompany each lesson.

The First Tee LINK has announced the start of the fourth season of its program for Midcoast children ages 7 to 15.

Last year, 52 students from Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties learned the basics of golf as well as The First Tee organization’s Nine Core Values™ —Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy, Judgment.

Keenan Flanagan, PGA pro at Rockland Golf Club, and Jim Povec, program director, said they are excited about building on the strong program that was enjoyed by young golfers last summer.

This season, there will be two five-week sessions on Thursdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at RGC, with the first session running May 30 through June 27, and the second session July 11 through Aug. 8.

The cost of the program for students is $50 for each five-week program, or $40 per student for families with two-or-more siblings who participate. Golf equipment is available on loan.

For information about scholarships available to families in need of assistance, call Povec at 704-280-7595.
