What inspiring performances on a beautiful spring day by Midcoast high school track-and-field athletes — led by four-event titlist Jack Hansen of Belfast — in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championships on Saturday, May 25 at McMann Stadium.

Qualifying student-athletes from Belfast, Mount View of Thorndike, Oceanside of Rockland, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro and Camden Hills of Rockport, among others, competed in the event.

Additionally, the Belfast boys emerged as team champions.

A handful of area athletes finished first and thus won league titles, led by Hansen's firsts in four individual events — pole vault, triple jump, long jump and 110-meter hurdles.

Others who grabbed firsts, including a few others with multiple titles, were Belfast's Junne Robertson-McIntire (100 and 200 meters) and Lia Frazee (pole vault, high jump), as well as Camden Hills' Tysen DeWaard (high jump) and Mount View's Sage Pound (800 and 1,600 meters).

The Lions also earned firsts in the 4×100-meter relays.

The league meet included an unusual number of scratches and disqualifications, which meant many student-athletes who qualified either opted not to participate or were disqualified for an infraction.

The girls team scores were: Cony of Augusta 100, Winslow 93, Belfast 85, Waterville 69, Maranacook of Readfield 50, Mount View 40, Mount Blue of Farmington 35, Camden Hills 31, Lawrence of Fairfield 29, Lincoln Academy of Newcastle 27, Leavitt of Turner 26, Medomak Valley 22, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield 13, Erskine Academy of South China and Gardiner 12 and Morse 2.
