Thanks to the collaboration and cooperation of two Midcoast high schools, among others, all of which hope to win state team tennis titles on Saturday, one group of area student-athletes will make it back home in plenty of time to attend their prom.

The Camden Hills and Belfast boys are set to vie for state championships on Saturday, June 8 and, initially, the Class B boys match, which includes the Lions, was scheduled for 12:45 p.m. and Class A boys match, which includes the Windjammers, for 4:15 p.m., both at Lewiston High School.

However, the Maine Principals' Association has announced the Class A and B boys times have been switched to accommodate the Camden Hills prom that same night.

The Class A and B girls matches, along with the Class C clashes, will stay in their originally-slotted times.

"Due to a conflict with a school function at one of the schools [Camden Hills] competing on Saturday … the MPA state team tennis championship schedule has been adjusted," stated Mike Bisson, assistant executive director, in a release.

"The MPA was able to move up our state championship boys tennis match so that it did not interfere with our prom," said Camden Hills athletic director Steve Alex. "I am very grateful to the MPA and all of the schools who agreed to change their times so that our kids could attend their prom."

"We did need to say we were willing to help," said Belfast athletic director Terry Kenniston. "The ultimate decision was made by the MPA. We recognize that this time of the year it is very hectic/chaotic with the amount of end-of-the-year activities schools have. We have had to ask others in the past to make a change for us to accommodate our activities. Therefore, it made sense from our end to help others."

Thus, the following is the MPA state championship match times for Saturday, June 8 at Lewiston High School, including each team's regional ranking and up-to-date records:

9:15 a.m. — Class C boys: No. 3 South Waynflete of Portland (12-3) versus No. 1 North Orono (14-1). Class C girls: No. 2 South Carrabec of North Anson (12-1) versus No. 1 North Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln (15-0).

12:45 p.m. — Class A boys: No. 1 South Falmouth (15-0) versus No. 1 North Camden Hills (14-0). Class B girls: No. 1 South Lincoln Academy of Newcastle (14-1) versus No. 3 North Erskine Academy of South China (13-2).
