With school out, a federal program is helping to provide free meals, through school districts, to children throughout Waldo County — with no income requirements and no registration.

Here's where children and teens 18 and younger can find free meals this summer; some locations have already begun serving:

Regional School Unit 71

Lunch is being served now through Aug. 22, Monday through Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. to noon at the Waldo County YMCA, Belfast.

Lunch is being served now through Aug. 21, Monday and Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Swan Lake State Park, 100 West Park Lane, Swanville.

Regional School Unit 3

Meals are being served now through Aug. 16, Monday through Friday (no meals July 4, July 5 and Aug. 14), at the following locations:

Mount View Complex in Thorndike, breakfast from 8 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Kanokolus Boat Landing in Unity, lunch, 10:50 to 11:10 a.m.

Field of Dreams in Unity, lunch, 11:15 to 11:35 a.m.

Morse Memorial School in Brooks, lunch, noon to 12:20 p.m.

Varney Building in Brooks, lunch, 12:30 to 12:50 p.m.

Regional School Unit 22

Meals are being served Monday through Friday, now through Aug. 23 at Leroy H. Smith School in Winterport, with breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to noon.

Regional School Unit 25

Lunch is being served Monday through Friday from noon to 1 p.m., now through Aug. 23, at G. Herbert Jewett School in Bucksport. 

The Game Loft

From July 8 through Aug. 30, The Game Loft in Belfast will be providing lunch and snacks, Monday through Friday, with lunch from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and snack time from 5 to 5:30 p.m.

RSU 3

In addition to locations that began serving in June, lunch will be available Monday through Friday, July 8 through Aug. 16, at Liberty Library, Liberty, 11 to 11:30 a.m., and Lake St. George St. Park, Liberty, 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (free day passes will be available at the gate while supplies last). No meals  will be served July 4, July 5 and Aug. 14.

Regional School Unit 20

Breakfast and lunch will be served Tuesday through Thursday, July 9 through Aug. 1, at Searsport District High School. Breakfast will be from 8 to 8:30 a.m., with lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m.

RSU 71

From July 9 through Aug. 1, Capt. Albert W. Stevens School and Troy Howard Middle School, both in Belfast, and Ames Elementary School in Searsmont will be serving breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Thursday. Breakfast will be from 8 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Anyone age 18 or younger may come to eat. Each year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer.
