Pastor, County Treasurer and Montville resident Peter Sheff offered to step in as Montville's interim Regional School Unit 3 school board member at the June 17 selectmen's meeting. Peter articulated his views of the current state of local education and how he would address issues.

Roll-Off weekend is set for July 13 and 14. Please note the transfer station will not be open on Wednesday evenings this summer because of budget constraints.

Montville Field Day Aug. 3

As we bid farewell to June, our thoughts are now on the Montville Field Day which is just around the corner! Anyone interested in being part of this effort is encouraged to attend the Monday Field Day meetings at 6 p.m. at the Town Office.

Calling all cooks! This year there will be a competition for the best beans in town. We are also looking for parade participants and volunteers for setup, the day of and clean up afterwards. Also, we are looking for anyone interested in heading up the face-painting station.

Fat Bike Camp

Midcoast Conservancy is sponsoring several events around the area to get kids active, outside and having fun. A mountain biking series is currently underway at Widmer Trails, 874 Halldale Road, (green mailbox, long driveway)in Montville, Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. on July 3, 10, 17 and 24. Fat tire bikes will be provided or bring your own. Instruction and exploration led by AmeriCorps members. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. MC asks that guests register at 389-5154 to make sure there are enough bikes available, but drop-ins are also welcome.

Liberty road repairs

Stickney Hill and Marshall Shores Road in Liberty are having road repairs done on Friday, June 28. Expect delays or avoid these roads if possible.

Chicken Barbecue

The Liberty Fire Department is having its annual Chicken Barbecue at the station on Thursday, July 4, from 11 a.m. until they sell out. Admission is $10 per person for half a chicken, assortment of salads, coleslaw, baked beans, dessert, and lemonade or water.

They are looking for donations of pasta salad, potato salad, coleslaw, green salads and desserts. Call or text Lisa Gillespie at 649-6812 and let her know. We will be at the Fire Station accepting donations of food on July 4 from 8 to 11 a.m. Thank you for your continued support.

Liberty Library News

Summer Meal Program

The library will be a site this summer for Summer Meals from July 8 through Aug. 16. Lunch will be available at 11 a.m. for any child 18 or younger. Meals need to be eaten onsite.

Passes

The library has two passes that library members can borrow:

– The Maine State Park Season Pass 2019 admits occupants of up to a 17-passenger vehicle to day-use facilities of select Maine state parks and historic sites. Checkout is for 48 hours.

– There are four passes for the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland. A pass will admit one adult (17+) to the museum. (Children 16 and under get in free.)

Passes may be borrowed by adults with a Liberty Library membership in good standing. They cannot be reserved.
