The Midcoast Junior Legion baseball team continued its hot start to the campaign as the “local nine” went 1-1 on the diamonds in recent days and are among the top teams in Zone 1 with a 7-1 record.

Midcoast dropped a 4-1 decision to the Messalonskee Loons on Wednesday, June 26 and bested Bangor 3-2 on Friday, June 28. Midcoast’s games with the Acadians, slated for Sunday, June 30, were rained out.

Midcoast will be back in action on Wednesday, July 3 at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor at 5 p.m. against Sebasticook.

The following is a recap of recent Midcoast games:

Midcoast 3, Bangor Cadets 2

At Bangor June 28, Midcoast continued its hot start with a one-run win over Bangor. Midcoast scored one run in the second inning and two in the sixth, while Bangor scored one in the first and one in the seventh.

Leading Midcoast at the plate were Logan Putansu (hit, run), Sam Moody (RBI), Aiden Schecter (hit, RBI), Dylan Abbott (2 hits, run), Joey Curtis (hit, RBI), Ethan Porter (hit), Brandon Cournoyer (hit), Pat McConnell (hit) and Eamon Goscinski (run).

For Bangor, Bradyn Caron (2 hits, run), Connor Prouty (hit) and Ben Caron (hit, run) paced the offense.

Curtis pitched for Midcoast, as he allowed four hits and two walks, with 11 strikeouts. Austin Conway pitched for Bangor, as he allowed eight hits and one walk, with seven strikeouts.

Messalonskee Loons 4, Midcoast 1

At Waterville June 26, Midcoast fell behind early and was dealt its first loss of the season, this to the Loons. The Loons scored three runs in the second inning and one in the fourth, while Midcoast scored in the third.

Leading the Midcoast offense were Tanner Veilleux (hit, RBI), Jason Bartlett (hit), Aiden Schecter (2 hits), Joey Curtis (hit) and Logan Putansu (2 hits, run).

For the Loons, Mitch Grant (run), Myles Hammond (2 hits, 2 runs), Jacob Benttinen (hit), Tysen Paz (run) and Andrew Everett (hit, 4 RBIs) paced the offense.

Chris Kelley pitched for Midcoast, as he allowed four hits and five walks, with five strikeouts. Paz pitched for the Loons, as he allowed seven hits and no walks, with six strikeouts.
