The Public Works Department was busy July 3, digging up a section of High Street and replacing a broken sewer line near the library.

Sometime on Wednesday, Belfast Free Library reported a flushing toilet backing up and it was later determined it was the line servicing the street that was the issue.

A Public Works crew member offered a recommendation: "So don't use the bathrooms in the library right now."

According to Kip Faulkner of Belfast Public Works, the replacement project was completed the same day, including a new section of sewer pipe, connections and then back-filling. Crews will be repaving the section of road in the near future, he said.

Traffic was down to one lane for several hours while the crew replaced the pipe.
