The regular season has reached its midway point for the Midcoast Junior Legion baseball team as it sports a 9-2 record and sits atop the Zone 1 standings.

In recent diamond action, Midcoast bested Sebasticook 12-1 on Wednesday, July 3 before splitting a doubleheader on Sunday, July 7, as it bested Machias 39-0 in five innings and lost to Mattanawcook 6-3.

The following is a recap of the three games for Midcoast:

Mattanawcook 6, Midcoast 3

At Bangor July 7, Midcoast was dealt its second loss of the campaign as it was doubled up by Mattanawcook. Midcoast scored runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings, while Mattanawcook plated two in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Leading Midcoast at the plate were Jason Bartlett (run), Aiden Schecter (2 hits, run), Sam Moody (2 hits), Chris Kelley (hit, run, RBI) and Logan Putansu (hit).

For Mattanawcook, L. O’Neal (run), J. Sutherland (hit, RBI, 2 runs), Q. Pileggi (hit, RBI), M. Kremin (2 hits, 2 RBIs, run), I. Hainer (hit, 2 RBIs), E. Norwood (run) and B. Dennison (run) paced the offense.

Joey Curtis pitched for Midcoast, as he allowed five hits and three walks, with six strikeouts. B. Dennison and A. Sanders pitched for Mattanawcook, as the two allowed six hits and three walks, with two strikeouts.

Midcoast 39, Calais 0 (5 inns.)

At Bangor July 7 — you read that right — Midcoast had an offensive explosion to the tune of 24 hits and surged to a lopsided win over Calais. Midcoast scored 10 runs in the firs inningt, six in the second, seven in the third, five in the fourth and 11 in the fifth.

Leading Midcoast at the plate were Sam Moody (3 hits, 4 runs, RBI), Jason Bartlett (3 hits, 6 runs, 7 RBIs), Aiden Schecter (4 hits, 6 runs, 5 RBIs), Joey Curtis (hit, 3 runs, 3 RBIs), Ethan Porter (2 runs), Tanner Veilleux (3 hits, 4 RBIs, 2 runs), Jason Greenleaf (hit, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Dylan Abbott (4 hits, 6 RBIs, 3 runs), Logan Putansu (2 hits, 2 RBIs, 3 runs), Brandon Cournoyer (hit, 2 runs), and Tommy Walker (2 hits, 3 RBIs, 4 runs.

For Machias, D. Maker and J. Emy collected hits.

Cournoyer, Bartlett and Walker combined on a two-hit shutout as the trio walked two and struck out seven. Machias pitchers allowed 24 hits and 16 walks, with three strikeouts.

Midcoast 12, Sebasticook 1 (5 inns.)

At Bangor July 3, Sebasticook scored first, but Midcoast scored often — to the tune of 12 straight runs — en route to their eighth win of the season. Midcoast scored three in the second, four in the third and fourth and one in the fifth.

Leading Midcoast at the plate were Sam Moody (hit, 2 runs, RBI), Tanner Veilleux (hit, run, RBI), Aiden Schecter (2 hits, run), Joey Curtis (2 hits, 2 runs, RBI), Jason Greenleaf (hit, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Logan Putansu (2 hits, 3 RBIs, run), Jason Bartlett (run), Dylan Abbott (run), Brandon Cournoyer (2 hits, run, RBI) and Tommy Walker (hit, RBI).

For Sebasticook, Josh Burnett (run), Lane Godsoe (hit, RBI) and Andy Hopkins (hit) paced the offense.

Logan Putansu, Dylan Abbott and Joey Curtis toed the rubber for Midcoast, as the trio allowed two hits and three walks, with six strikeouts. Mike Scharff and Hunter Upton pitched for Sebasticook, as the duo allowed 12 hits and four walks, with one strikeout.
