The 20th annual Camden Hills Summer Hoopfest, sponsored by Five Town Basketball, tipped off Friday through Sunday, July 12-14 at Camden Hills Regional High School as nine high school girls court teams put in offseason work, while they eyed a tournament championship in the balance.

By the end of the weekend, it was Gardiner that emerged with a the coveted title with a 68-59 win over John Bapst of Bangor.

Each team played five games with two 20-minute halves between Friday and Saturday, as the top six teams qualified for championship Sunday.

On Sunday, the tournament format changed to traditional, four eight-minute quarters.

The standings for teams included: Central Aroostook of Mars Hill 5-0, Presque Isle 5-0, Gardiner 4-1, Camden Hills 3-2, John Bapst 2-3, Mount Desert Island 2-3, Vinalhaven 1-4, Mount View of Thorndike 0-5 and Oceanside of Rockland 0-5.

Central Aroostook and Presque Isle collected first-round byes on Sunday.

In the first round, No. 3 Gardiner beat No. 6 MDI 47-42, while No. 5 John Bapst beat No. 6 Camden Hills 63-33.

Then, in the second round, No. 3 Gardiner defeated No. 2 Presque Isle (score unavailable), while No. 5 John Bapst beat No. 1 Central Aroostook 47-44.

Then, in the championship game, No. 3 Gardiner clinched the tournament title with a 68-59 win over John Bapst.

By virtue of its victory, Gardiner received championship t-shirts and also won the team three-point contest and will receive a team building pizza party on Five Town Basketball at a pizzaria of their choice.

The rosters for the four Midcoast teams included:

Camden Hills — Ella Graffam, Bayley Curtis, Tessa Whitley, Kaylyn Krul, Ella Powers, Molly Hixon, Miranda Dunton, Lily Clement, Audrey Bowman and Mila Bonemetti.

Oceanside — Anna Kingsbury, Grace Woodman, Jessica Watkinson, Abby Hersey, Molly Gould, Bella Stasulis, Audrey Mackie, Katherine Freeman, Abby Waterman, Emily Sykes and Autumn Harvey.

Vinalhaven — Hannah Newton, Corey Lazaro, Myra Mills, Hope Cluff, Jordan Hoose, Aubrianna Hoose, Maddie Miller, Makayla Boody and Gracie Warren.

Mount View — Sophia King, Syd Vogel, Kricket Thompson, Lydia Bryant, Macy Fowler, Anna St. Onge, Kallie Anderson, Kiera Munro and Dakota Jones.
