For the second straight year, Mother Nature decided moisture would rain down on the 100 participants of the annual "Bug Run" 5-kilometer road race and walk, but the precipitation did not bog down times.

Perry Lebreton of Old Town turned in the fastest overall time, as he finished the 3.1-mile trek in 17:09.

Shawn Rumery of Searsmont was right on Lebreton's heels — 3 seconds to be exact — as Rumery finished second with a time of 17:12, while Myles Cannon of Belfast was steps behind in third with a time of 17:19. Caitlin May of Belfast was the top female finisher in eighth with a time of 20:18.

Last year's winner, Wade Boudreau of Gardiner, finished sixth.

The top male and female runners — Lebreton and May — received 20 pounds of lobster. Lobsters often are called bugs by Maine fishermen, thus the name, bug run.

The Bug Run is part of the Belfast Harbor Fest celebration, which ran from Friday to Sunday, Aug. 16-18.

The race was run over a scenic, fairly flat course that included a few gentle hills, shaded neighborhoods, a stretch along the waterfront, and the Armistice Footbridge across the Passagassawakeag River, with one water stop.

The event is also the fourth of six events in the Run Belfast 2019 series.
