The most recent Courier Publications/VillageSoup sports poll is in the books, and the majority feel the Red Sox (67-61) will turn their play around and make the playoffs.

Forty-eight-point-eight percent of voters chose "yes" while 41.9 percent believe Boston will not turn its play around. Nine-point-three percent were undecided.

Boston's season has not gotten any better since the All-Star break in July, as the Red Sox sit third in the American League East standings behind the Tampa Bay Rays in second and New York Yankees in first.

As of Aug. 22, Boston is 16 games back of the Yankees for the division lead, and seven games back of the Cleveland Indians for the Wild Card lead. The top two teams in the Wild Card standings qualify for the playoffs.

The Red Sox have just over a month left in the regular season, as the team's final game comes on Sunday, Sept. 29, at home against the Baltimore Orioles.

With August almost over the 2019 NFL season has started with preseason games, and the new sports poll turns its attention towards the Patriots and Tom Brady.

In the new poll the sports staff asks: Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who just turned 42, has signed a new one-year contract with New England. What is your level of concern this will be Brady's final year in a Patriot uniform and he will sign as a free agent elsewhere for 2020?
