I came home from the Constable Family Reunion at Sky Lodge in Jackman last Saturday and was totally exhausted and looking forward to going to bed. However, my little friend the bat had other ideas for me. I turned off the lights and opened the doors; he eventually found his way to freedom. I'm a big fan of bats and hate to see them harmed.

The Good Steward Thrift Shop is looking for some volunteers. This little thrift store offers very reasonably priced clothing and small household goods. They will accept your gently used and clean garments, children's books, dishware, small home appliances and accessories.

Still a lot of flocking going on in Unity and it has spread to neighboring towns as well. This is a fundraiser for the Unity Recreation Committee and has been a lot of fun to see who gets "flocked." Please call Najean Shedyak, 649-1925, or Denise Whitney, 948-6326.

The ATV Poker Run, sponsored by the Unity Fire Department Auxiliary, was a huge success. Job well-done by all the volunteers! The Thorndike Trailblazers ATV club also sold hot dogs.

Sept. 11 is the deadline to receive your 2% discount on property taxes. Reminder that selectmen's meetings are the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Planning Board meetings are the fourth Wednesday at 7 p.m.

School is starting soon. The college students are arriving this week. The leaves are already turning and the nights are getting cooler. Soon we'll be swamped with pumpkin spice everything.
