A young man escaped serious injury Friday when his car went off the road, hit a large branch and narrowly missed two large trees before flipping over.

The 17-year-old driver was taken to Waldo County General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

According to Waldo County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 23, the teen was traveling west on Back Belmont Road.

Witnesses said they saw the blue Honda Civic traveling at a high rate of speed in the vicinity of mailbox 136 near the Ridge Road intersection. Skid marks could be seen in the center of the road after a small knoll, before angling left off the road.

Besides the Sheriff's Office, Belmont Fire Department and Belfast Ambulance responded to the call.
