On Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, Sandra Glenn St. Peter Carey, passed away at the age of 57, surrounded by family and loved ones, following a brief fight with cancer.

Sandy was born Feb. 20, 1962, in Nashua, N.H., to Geralda and Donald St. Peter, on the same day John Glenn completed his historic orbit of Earth. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1980, and received her forestry degree from the University of Maine in 1995. Since 2012, she worked with the city of Belfast managing the transfer station.

Sandy was known for her warm smile and open heart. She truly loved her job and being able to interact with the people of Belfast and the Midcoast daily. She held the friendships and connections made while at work very close to her heart.

Sandy loved spending her free time outdoors; she learned to ski later in life, and loved Sugarloaf and skiing with her family. During the summer months Ducktrap Beach in Lincolnville was her favorite spot to read a book, relax and collect sea glass. She had passion for the earth, and recycling’s importance in combating climate change.

Above all Sandy will be remembered as a loving mother, sister and friend, who always supported and put her family first.

Sandy is survived by her son Brendan, her mother Geralda, her sisters Patti and Pamela, her brother Michael, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Belfast Boathouse on Commercial Street at 4 p.m.
