One-hundred and 21 high school cross-country runners finished their treks around the 3.1-mile Troy Howard Middle School course on a glorious afternoon Friday, Sept. 13 and, among them, were at least three Midcoast student-athletes who either set or helped set the pace for the races.

Seventy-five boys and 46 girls finished the two high school races, which included area teams from Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, Oceanside of Rockland, Islesboro, Mount View of Thorndike and host Belfast.

Belfast's Miles Cannon set the pace for the boys as he finished first in 18:03, while Medomak Valley's Connor Daigle was second at 18:50.

In the girls race, Leavitt's Ava Petrin finished first in 22:17, while Medomak Valley's Olivia Parent was second at 22:41.

The popular, fan-friendly course often is used for regional and state championship meets, along with being the site for the Festival of Champions, the largest high school running event in the state each year.

The girls team scores were: Belfast 45, Medomak Valley 50, Erskine Academy of South China 62, Leavitt of Turner 78, Hall-Dale of Hallowell 116 and Nokomis of Newport, Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft, Islesboro and Oceanside no score.

The boys team scores were: Erskine Academy 34, Belfast 55, Medomak Valley 64, Foxcroft Academy 104, Hall-Dale 122, Nokomis 145 and Oceanside, Leavitt, Mount View and Islesboro no score.
