After regular seasons at opposite ends of the high school golf spectrum, the Lions of Belfast and Mustangs of Mount View took swings at the next steps of a league championship tournament.

Belfast finished the regular season as the top squad in Class B North, and earned a first-round bye in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference playoffs as well as the No. 1 seed, while the Mustangs did not win a match in the regular season, which placed them as the No. 7 seed for the league tournament.

Fresh off its bye, No. 1 Belfast (9-2) continued its forward momentum with an 8-1 win over No. 4 Lawrence of Fairfield (4-6) on Monday, Sept. 23, while No. 7 Mount View (0-10) fell 9-0 to No. 2 Waterville (8-3) on Friday, Sept. 20.

The victory propeled the Lions into the KVAC Class B shootout on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. at Rockland Golf Club.
