No goals allowed equaled a pair of wins for the Belfast and Mount View field hockey teams on Thursday, Sept. 26 as the Lions and Mustangs came away with lopsided shutout victories to begin the season’s second half.

The Lions prowled to an 8-0 home win over Oceanside at Point Lookout in Northport, while the Mustangs defended their home turf with a 5-0 triumph over Maranacook of Readfield.

Belfast also dropped a 2-1 decision to Nokomis of Newport on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Belfast 8, Oceanside 0

At Northport Sept. 26, the Lions roared to a commanding lead in the game’s opening minutes and prevailed by shutout over the Mariners. Belfast led 6-0 at halftime.

Leading the potent Belfast scoring attack were Kayci Faulkingham (3 goals), Mallory Tibbetts (goal, 2 assists), Grace Hall (goal, assist), Madison Limeburner (goal), Hailey Lindelof (goal), Sarah Woods (assist), Hannah Banks (assist), Chelsea Gaiero (assist), Kiara Doolan (assist) and Reilly Nickerson (assist).

Belfast outshot Oceanside 39-2 and held a 12-0 advantage in penalty corners.

Alexa Barstow and Hannah Grindle made 19 saves in the cage for the Mariners, while Brooke Richards made two saves for the Lions.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Belfast (6-2, 37.2449 points) is fourth, while Winslow (9-0, 51.7033 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

Mount View 5, Maranacook 0

At Thorndike Sept. 26, the Mustangs made quick work of the visitors en route to a blanking of the Black Bears.

Leading the Mustang offense were Sophia King (2 goals, assist), Alexa Coffin (2 goals) and Brianna Tripp (goal).

Thurston Illingworth, who stoned a penalty stroke early in the first half, made six saves on six shots in the cage for Mount View, while Alyssa Pratt made 12 saves on 17 shots for Maranacook.

The hosts also held a 15-8 advantage in penalty corners.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class C North, Mount View (6-3, 20.0000 points) is fifth, while Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft (5-0, 40.2590 points) is first in the 12-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.

Nokomis 2, Belfast 1

At Newport Sept. 24, the Warriors got a pair of first-half goals from Lauren Burke, which proved enough to collect a point-worthy win over the Lions. Nokomis led 2-0 at halftime.

Brianna Townsend added an assist in the win for Nokomis, while Chelsea Gaiero scored in the second half, off an assist from Mallory Tibbetts, to key Belfast.

Brooke Richards made six saves in the cage for the Lions, while Ashley Mann made 14 saves for the Warriors.

Belfast held a 17-8 edge in shots and 11-5 advantage in penalty corners.
