From Above, a nonprofit ministry of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast, has started a Gofundme campaign to raise money for its street ministry, run by church members Matt Bolduc and David Smith.

Funds will be used to help people in Waldo County with a variety of needs, such as repairs to make housing safe and habitable, paying for a motel room for those with no other shelter, finding work, paying heating bills or gift cards for groceries. Bolduc, a street minister, said he checks on the people he helps frequently to see how they are doing. He believes that emotional support is as important as the things money provides.

The fundraising goal is $3,000, of which $843 had been raised as of July 24. Bolduc noted that a motel room at Admiral's Ocean Inn in Belfast is $300 a week; 100 gallons of oil is around $200.

Bolduc is passionate about his work of providing direct aid to people in need, some of whom have physical handicaps or mental illness, and many of whom come to him as a last resort having found no assistance elsewhere. "I'm just a soldier for God," he said. "My messages come from people who call me up and ask me for help."
