Hello All,

Another week with this hot humid weather pretty much. The farmers are busy haying. Gardens are growing, farm stands are busy with all fresh veggie sales, and more. Nothing like the freshest you can get.

Remembering Bev

I was saddened to read of Beverly Ludden's passing recently. She was a longtime correspondent for The Republican Journal, and VillageSoup, like myself. She liked to bring us her family adventures and goings-on in Jackson, so people who bought the paper could read of what was happening in Jackson. Many elderly enjoy this as well. She was an RSU 3 bus driver for a long time.

I enjoyed her phone calls we had, and stopping by her place on Route 7. She was compassionate and likeable. A bright spirit indeed. I will miss you, Bev. Thinking of her family at this time. May she rest in peace.

Birthday party

Dee Dee and myself were among those at the 1st birthday party for Kaylie Doughty at Mosman Park in Searsport on Sunday. She is the daughter of Rene Nicole Martin and Kyle Doughty (one of my grandsons). It was a long day for her, and she received many toys and other gifts. A pretty birthday cake was given to her as she got hands into the frosting. She was so cute.

Thanks Kyle and Rene for inviting us to share her day. Her actual birthday was July 23. Other family, her Grammie Tonja, Lil Kevin, and Tasha, Pat Wood and grandkids were also there. A fun day for the kids. Was nice to see Amber, too.

Freedom Dirigo Grange

A Blueberry Pie day, and blueberry muffins, too. On Sunday, Aug. 9, 2-4 p.m., the Grangers will be selling slices of pie and muffins. Pie is $5 and muffins two for $3. Held at Ingraham's Equipment for to-go sales. Takeout only!

Masonic Hall Thorndike

A pie sale will be happening on Friday, Aug. 7, 4-6 p.m., at the Hall on Gordon Hill Road. They wish for your support.

Thorndike Mill

The old Farwell building is getting some much-needed rehab as the foundation work, etc., continues there. Diana Prizio is there to tell you of the goings-on. She is also back at Garden Variety, too. Stop by and check the places out soon.

Many thanks to John Gibbs for resurrecting the Holy Mackerel Tournament in Belfast. This recently took place. Donations were made to Operation Reboot, veterans and hunting missions.

Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association

Our cemetery in Freedom has available space for lots there. Call Bob Price at 382-6324 for any info. He is the president of the association and can help you if you need a future lot. Also, work will be done to remove the old maple trees that line Route 137. They need to be replaced. Marcus Lowe of "Mow and Lowe" does a splendid job of mowing and maintaining the cemetery there. It is a very time-consuming job as there is lots of work. Every time I have been there it looks nice.

Community Yard Sale

A huge Community Yard Sale is planned for Saturday, Aug. 8, at the old school yard across from the Unity Town office at 69 School St., 9 a.m.-2 p.m. No fee, bring your own table, just show up. Lori Grant Nason is heading this up. Lori does many fundraisers for community members in their time of need. She helps out with many things going on. Contact her on Facebook for further info, too. She posted many things that would be available as well. People have been busy cleaning out during the virus mess we are dealing with. Stop by and check it out. Look for signs too.

Chicken Barbecue

The next American Legion Post 50 Takeout Chicken Barbecue is planned for Saturday, Aug. 15. Homemade baked beans will be included with the menu. Stay tuned.

Time, where did it go?

Time is flying by as today is the last day of July as I type this up. Not much news to report as things seem to be at a standstill. Schools opening is on the minds of many. Getting kids to wear masks will be a real mess in my opinion. Safe distancing, etc., a real nightmare for sure. Who would have believed this mess upon us.

Our condolences to the whole Bryant family of town, on the loss of Lucas Bryant who passed on July 24 at home. Thinking of Jolene and son Diesel at this time. May he rest in peace now.

Until next week,

May you all have a nice week. Be safe and stay cool. Many are enjoying those swimming pools. Unity Pond Ice Races are hopefully going to have some T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies to sell. This will help with the insurance they have to purchase among other things to have the races in the winter. Frank's Hard Knox track on Flat Road has seen some action lately with the moto bikes and wheelers there having fun. Get well to Tammy McCue. Take care all. Be safe.
