Due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, concerns for the health and safety of junior players and other participants, the 21st annual Povec Invitational golf tournament in September at the Megunticook Golf Club has been canceled.

The event is a youth event that supports the First Tee LINK Rockland program which teaches the game and core values of golf to children ages 7 to 14.

In 2019, there were 71 young golfers enrolled in the program.

"Unfortunately, this summer’s program also was a victim of the pandemic and had to be canceled," Povec said. "However, the coaches already are making plans to expand the number of youth participants in 2021, and everyone is anticipating the Povec Invitational golf tournament again in September of next year. In the meantime, junior golfers are encouraged to keep up their interest in golf and to play wherever it is safe to do so."
