As of Aug. 19, there had not been a formal announcement from the Maine Principals' Association if the high school fall sports season will take place. Despite the lack of news, the majority of voters in the latest Courier Publications/VillageSoup sports poll want a fall sports season to be played.

Forty-five-point-eight percent of voters chose "yes, it is time to get student-athletes back in the game," while 31.2 percent also believe there should be a fall sports season, but "with safety measures." Sixteen-point-seven percent do not believe there should be a fall sports season because of the danger posed to student-athletes, while 6.3 percent were "undecided until more information became available."

The MPA has said it will decide on a high school fall sports season by Thursday, Aug. 27. To read the latest info on the status of the sports season click here.

Now, the sports staff shifts its focus to the Boston Red Sox, and their less-than-stellar season.

In the newest poll, the sports staff asks: As the struggling Boston Red Sox struggle to stay in contention for the expanded playoffs in a pandemic-shortened 60-game schedule, who should be on the trading block?

At the midway point of the 60-game schedule, Boston (9-18) is fifth in the American League East standings.
