A crowd of about 70 Waldo County Republicans gathered Thursday night to open their election headquarters in the Wentworth Building on Waldo Avenue.

GOP candidates who spoke at the outdoor event included retired Col. Duncan Milne, running for state Senate from Waldo County; incumbent Reps. MaryAnne Kinney of Knox and Sherm Hutchins of Penobscot; and hopefuls Jessica Connor of Searsport, Katrina Smith of Palermo, and William Elliott of Belfast, who has filed to oppose incumbent Democrat Jan Dodge.

Representatives also spoke on behalf of the Trump campaign, U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, and Dale Crafts, District 2 candidate for U.S. House.

As a highlight of the evening, Waldo County Republican Committee Chairman JoAn Petersen honored Dave Parkman of Palermo for his 50 years of service to the county committee, 16 of them as treasurer. He also served as Waldo County treasurer, an elected position, for 16 years from 2002 to 2018.
