With picture-perfect weather, the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual golf tournament on Friday, Sept. 11 as 11 teams competed for a range of prizes, including the possibility of winning a 2020 Buick Encore GX from Stanley Chevrolet Buick in Belfast.

On the course, Horch Roofing won the overall team competition, while EcoCor and Rollie’s tied for second.

John Picchiotti finished closest to the pin, sponsored by Downeast Credit Union and Giles Consulting. Charlie "Gramps" Gray for men and Lisa Desmarteau for women hit the longest drives, a contest sponsored by Front Street Shipyard. Ryan Otis finished first and Carter Cyr and Gramps Gray tied for second in the putting contest, sponsored by Changing Seasons Credit Union and Edward Jones/Belfast.

Northport Golf Club has become skilled this summer at hosting a fun round of golf while maintaining COVID-19 precautions, and the chamber tournament was no exception. Using masks, social distancing, and plenty of consideration for each other, golfers, staff and volunteers kept the event flowing and enjoyable, said Steve Ryan, executive director of the chamber.

Although no players succeeded in making a hole-in-one to win the car, the day ended with a socially-distanced time to relax and listen to the announcement of nearly $800 in prizes, Ryan said.

Event coordinator Josh Hunt of KSW Federal Credit Union, this year’s major sponsor, thanked Paul Doody of Camden National Bank for his hard work as event coordinator the past many years.

In all, 43 area businesses or groups supported the event, including tourney sponsors LCI Fiber Optic Network, Whitecap Builders, Nordic Aquafarms and Mid Coast Tech, plus contest sponsors Front Street Shipyard, Changing Seasons Federal Credit Union, Downeast Credit Union, Giles Consulting and Edward Jones/Belfast.

Ryan said the Belfast Area Chamber’s goal is to support economic prosperity across Waldo County through networking, education and promotion of the region and its businesses. See additional information at BelfastMaine.org.
