The majority of Mount View athletic teams got a head start on other Waldo County high schools on the fields the past few days, as the Mutang soccer, field hockey and golf teams turned in impressive performances.

The Mustang boys soccer squad — the defending Class C North champion — had its way with Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield with a 6-1 win, while the Mustang girls blanked the Huskies 6-0. The Mount View field hockey team also emerged with a 2-1, double-overtime victory over Waterville.

The Mustang golf team also played tri-matches against Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield and Nokomis of Newport.

Boys soccer

Mount View 6, Maine Central Institute 1

At Pittsfield Sept. 26, the defending regional champion Mustangs galloped out of the gate on the right feet and penned in the Huskies.

Mount View had three players net two goals in Draedyn Furrow, Tyler Russell and Reuben Schofield, while Furrow also had two assists in the victory. Camden Roy had the lone goal for MCI.

Ricky Nelson made 12 saves in the net for the ‘Stangs.

Girls soccer

Mount View 6, Maine Central Institute 0

At Thorndike Sept. 25, the Mustangs blanked the visiting Mustangs in the first game of the season. Mount View held a 2-0 edge at halftime.

Gabby Allen pumped in four goals to lead the Mount View offense, while Hannah Coolen (goal), Ezra Holt (goal), Sage Pound (2 assists) and Mia Rae (assist) also contributed to the final score.

“Everyone got a chance at varsity experience today,” said Mount View coach David Page. “We were all pumped to be back playing someone else. No major injuries on either side, everyone followed protocol and after a daylong mission by our IT department, our livestream went down without a hitch. Definitely a win on all fronts for everyone involved and we’re thankful to have the opportunity.”

Gabby Hanks and Maddie Bisson combined to make one save on two shots in net for the ‘Stangs, while Natalie Hodgkins made 23 saves on 39 shots in goal for the Huskies.

Field hockey

Mount View 2, Waterville 1 (2OT)

At Waterville Sept. 26, the Mustangs edged the Purple Panthers in a thrilling double-overtime battle. The game was scoreless at halftime and tied 1-1 at the end of regulation.

The game was scoreless after three quarters (games are now four 15-minute quarters) before Waterville scored to take a 1-0 advantage early in the fourth stanza.

Sophia King scored with 20 seconds to go in the game, off an assist by Greta Ahlefield, for the Mustangs as Ahelfield got her second assist late in overtime as Mackenzie Burgess clanged in the game-winning goal.

Ella Sawyer made four saves on five shots in the cage for the Mustangs, while Valia Paquette made 19 saves on 21 shots in goal for the Purple Panthers.

Golf

Mount View will play the same two opponents this season — Nokomis of Newport and Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield — in preparation for the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference state qualifier.

Mustangs include Lucas Ford, Dylan Locke, Anastasia Oxton, Caleb Raven, Shawn VonOesen, Abishia Harris, Miles Littlefield, Evan Aspinall and Sean Pooler.

At Pittsfield Sept. 28, the Huskies finished with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 176 to 240 for Mount View.

Nokomis 7.5, Mount View 1.5

At Pittsfield Sept. 28, the Warriors finished with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 231 to 240 for Mount View.

Miles Littlefield and Abishia Harris won matches and Calen Raven tied against the Warriors.

Maine Central Institute 8, Mount View 1

At Palmyra Sept. 25, the Huskies finished with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 197 to 253 for the Mustangs.

Miles Littlefield won against MCI.

Nokomis 8, Mount View 1

At Palmyra Sept. 25, the Warriors finished with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 196 to 253 for the Mustangs.

Maine Central Institute 7, Mount View 2

At Brooks Sept. 23, the Huskies finished with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 195 to 235 for the Mustangs.

Nokomis 8.5, Mount View 0.5

At Brooks Sept. 23, the Warriors finished with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 214 to 235 for the Mustangs.

Caleb Raven tied his match against Nokomis.

Maine Central Institute 9, Mount View 0

At Pittsfield Sept. 21, the Huskies finished with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 187 to 237 for the Mustangs.

Nokomis 7.5, Mount View 1.5

At Pittsfield Sept. 21, the Warriors finished with a four-golfer, nine-hole total of 203 to 237 for the Mustangs.

Abishia Harris won a match and Miles Littlefield tied against the Warriors.
