Richard P. Chalmers died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, after a period of declining health. He was born Aug. 24, 1944, in Belfast, the son of Florence and Henry L. Chalmers Sr.

Dick graduated from Crosby High School in the class of 1962 and the University of Maine at Machias in 1966. He served his country during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. He was a science educator at Webster Middle School in Auburn for many years.

After retiring from teaching he moved to Leesburg, Fla., where he was able to enjoy his hobbies of golfing and horse racing year-round. Being quick with a joke and always willing to help out a neighbor in need, he acquired a large circle of friends at his Leesburg Landing residence. He generously opened his Florida home to family members for vacations during the cold Maine winters. As an educator himself, he supported the educational goals of his nieces and nephew and great-niece and great-nephews.

Dick is survived by his brothers, Henry Chalmers Jr. and wife Barbara of Belfast and Donald Chalmers of Leesburg, Fla. He was a wonderful uncle to his four nieces, Lori Chalmers, Carol Chalmers, Jessie Chalmers and Jodie Singer and his nephew, John Chalmers.

Because of limitations of COVID-19 no funeral services are planned at this time.
