What a crazy little storm day Wednesday turned out to be. Like an earlier spring storm, trees fell on either end of the road at our house, knocking down wires and totally cutting us off from driving anywhere.

One tree fell on the wires with such force it yanked the power line off our house. It then hung precariously over our driveway. We were able to work using our cellphones as hotspots for a while until those batteries were exhausted. It was nice playing Scrabble by candlelight. The power crews arrived the next afternoon to reattach our power. Thank you, guys.

Collecting outerwear

The Liberty Library is collecting knitted hats, mittens, cowls and scarves from children and adults in need of them. They are also collecting clean adult jackets and coats for the Belfast Soup Kitchen. Items can be dropped off at the library parking lot: Tuesday, Oct. 6, 9-10 a.m.; Friday, Oct. 9, 2-3 p.m.; Tuesday, Oct. 27, 9-10 a.m.; and Friday, Oct. 30, 2-3 p.m.

They ask everything be put in bags; paper for the knit wear, plastic for the coats and jackets. They will be quarantining everything before it is passed along to where it is needed.

More dates will be added for November and through the winter. If unable to make these dates, please call Jo Peavey at 322-7863 or Sue Chapin at 589-4863.

From the library

Thanks so much for all of your knitting and crocheting and for all of the warm thoughts caught in the stitches. It means so much to those who receive them!
