The Belfast, Mount View and Oceanside high school field hockey teams were in action on Tuesday, Oct. 6, a scenario that saw the always talented and successful Waldo County squads secure shutout victories.

In Rockland, the Lions went on the road to claw to a 2-0 win over the Mariners, while the Mustangs also proved road warriors as they emerged with a 7-0 win at Erskine Academy of South China.

The Mustangs also collected a 7-0 home win over Waterville on Thursday, Oct. 8.

The following is a recap of reported results:

Mount View 7, Waterville 0

At Thorndike Oct. 8, the Mustangs galloped to a lopsided win over the Purple Panthers. Mount View led 1-0, 4-0 and 6-0 at the quarter breaks.

Leading the potent Mount View offense were Alexa Coffin (4 goals), Ivory Spaulding (2 assists), Macy Fowler (goal, assist), Sophia King (goal) and Kate Bourgeois (goal).

Ella Sawyer made one save on one shut in the cage for the Mustangs, while Yuliya Paquette and Gabbie St. Pete made 19 saves on 26 shots in goal for the Purple Panthers.

Belfast 2, Oceanside 0

At Rockland Oct. 6, the Lions scored a goal in each half and blanked the host Mariners. The score was scoreless at the end of the first quarter, 1-0 at halftime and 2-0 after three quarters.

Chelsea Gaiero scored twice in the win for Belfast, while Emily Woods and Kiara Doolan logged assists for the visitors.

Belfast finished with a dominant 44-0 advantage in shots and 16-1 difference in penalty corners. Alexa Barstow made a bevy of saves in the cage for the Mariners, while Madison Shorey faced no shots in goal for the Lions.

The Lions have outscored opponents 30-0 in their five straight wins to start the shortened fall season. The Mariners are 0-2, both losses to Belfast.

Mount View 7, Erskine Academy 0

At South China Oct. 6, the Mustangs put a “touchdown” on the board on way to a shutout win over the Eagles. Mount View led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter, 4-0 at halftime and 5-0 after three quarters.

Ivory Spaulding (2 goals, assist), Macy Fowler (assist), Alexa Coffin (3 goals), Kate Bourgeois (goal) and Jacie Nickerson (goal) led the Mount View offensive attack.

Ella Sawyer made two saves on two shots in the cage for the ‘Stangs, while Emily York had an eye-popping 44 saves on 51 shots in goal for the Eagles.

The Mustangs are 3-0 on the season.
