The Belfast and Searsport soccer teams squared off on both sides of the Passagassawakeag River on Thursday, Oct. 8, a scenario that saw the road high school pitch teams earn  wins.

In Searsport, the Lion boys rose to the occasion and netted a 5-3 victory, while in Belfast, the Viking girls grabbed a 5-1 victory over the Lions.

Girls

Searsport 5, Belfast 1

At Belfast Oct. 8, the Vikings cruised to a strong first-half lead and surged past the Lions. Searsport led 4-1 at halftime.

Makenzie Alley pumped in four goals to lead the Vikings and MyKenzie Tripp one goal, while Anna Schortz scored the lone goal for the Lions.

Sarah Gent made eight saves on nine shots in goal for Searsport, while Stella Collins made five saves on 10 shots in net for Belfast.

The hosts held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Boys

Belfast 5, Searsport 3

At Searsport Oct. 8, the Lions broke open an otherwise close game in the second half and prowled past the Vikings. The squads were tied 1-1 at halftime.

Zepherin Leppanen netted two goals and added one assist in the win for the Lions, while Jason Bartlett (goal), Jonah Lovejoy (goal) and Lincoln Graf (goal) had scores for the visitors.

Gage Ellis netted two goals for the Vikings, while Sean Paige added one.

Belfast led 25-5 in shots and 2-0 in corner kicks. Zeke Slaughter made two saves in goal for the Lions, while Josh Wright made nine save in net for the Vikings.
