It was a gorgeous fall day on Sunday, Oct. 18, the perfect opportunity to be outdoors or even in a large enclosure as SeaHorse Stables hosted its first Interscholastic Equestrian Association horse show.

Team Evenstride of Newbury, Mass., Whishmaker of Rollinsford, N.H. and MidCoast Maine joined the event.

"The classes were full and the competition was great," said Amy Miller of SeaHorse.

Twenty-four horses from SeaHorse Stables, East Ride Stables and Infinity Stables participated.

"The Prestige," known around the barn as Stewie, and Jimmy, a SeaHorse Stables favorite, won the most points for favorite equitation horse of the day, Miller said.

SeaHorse Stables' middle school team came in reserve champion for show B and SeaHorse Stables' upper school team came in reserve champion for show A.

In show A, Whishmaker finished at 25, SeaHorse 12 and Midcoast Maine 7. in Show B, Whishmaker finished at 27 and SeaHorse and Midcoast Maine 9.

"We will attend two more horseshows this season, hoping to reach our goal of qualifying for zones and then moving on to regionals," Miller said.

The IEA catch phrase is: "It's your future. Take the reins."

On Sunday, the young SeaHorse Stables' equestrians did that — this time much closer to home.
