A Stockton Springs man indicted for a 36-year-old murder was denied bail Monday, Oct. 26, at the Waldo Judicial Center.

Kirt Damon Sr., 57, was arrested and charged with the 1984 murder of 63-year-old Dorothea Burke of Stockton Springs Sept. 23. At the time of the murder, police said, Damon was 20 years old.

At the Harnish hearing Monday, Leane Zainea and Lara Nomani, both attorneys for the state, argued Damon should be held without bail, according to Marc Mallon, spokesman for the Attorney General's Office.

A press release from the State Police Unsolved Homicides Unit said Burke was last seen at a bar in Bucksport June 23, 1984. She had attended a family wedding earlier in the day and was preparing to celebrate her birthday.

She was reported missing the next day when she failed to return home. Five days later, on June 28, her body was discovered by construction workers on Meadow Road in Stockton Springs.
