I had a pretty good birthday week. We had some homemade spice cupcakes (made by my Aunt Rosemary) at the selectmen's meeting to celebrate Dan McCormick's and my birthdays. Kari and Tony sang to us, which was a treat in itself.

My husband had made for me two bat boxes. I've always loved bats. We used to watch them at dusk at my grandparents' home on Bangor Road; at dusk they'd come flying by the hundreds out of the old chicken barn.

If you'd like some, come to the salt/sand shed on Crosby Brook Road Saturday, Dec. 5, 9-11 a.m. Tony and I will be there to help. Bring your 5-gallon bucket to get some sand/salt mixture for your walkway. And yes, you can pick some up for your elderly/disabled neighbor as well. Unity residents only. Happy Birthday (on the 30th) to one of my oldest friends, Donyse (Higgins) Babin. We've known each other since Playskool, where her mom, Barbara, wrangled many of the area youth. I still remember the nursery poem/song "Playmates" that we sang …

"Playmate, come out and play with me

And bring your dollies three,

Climb up my apple tree,

Look down my rain barrel,

Slide down my cellar door,

And we'll be jolly friends forever more."
