Community Builders

Join Stockton Springs Community Builders for their annual holiday event on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. This will be a drive-through event, observing all COVID-19 guidelines.

There will be a big display of holiday lights, a nativity scene and of course, a sleigh carrying Santa and Mrs. Claus, complete with holiday music. Children will receive goodies and also a packet of holiday crafts. This is an all-ages drive-through holiday event.

They are also sponsoring a decorate Stockton challenge. If you are interested in adding some sparkle to your home, contact them on their Facebook page and they will add your home to the contest.

Town Office

Recycling dates for this month are Thursdays, Dec. 10 and 24. The “Giving Tree” will be put up after Thanksgiving. This year, due to COVID-19, things will be a little different. People who are interested in donating items please call ahead. Staff will meet you at the door to assist you. The Town Office number is 567-3404.

The town's “Keep the Heat on Fund” has received a few donations this season. Please consider donating to the heat fund for our residents in need.

So far this morning, the day after Thanksgiving, I have watched four of the lobster boats coming into the harbor with their traps loaded on their back decks. Soon they will not have the final dock to use so will most likely be out of the water.

The eagle just did a fly-by and there are various water birds in the harbor, which are visible because the winds are light. Two men in a small boat dressed in orange for hunting went out of the harbor as well. This week we have had snow, ice, rain and some sunshine. I always think of November as being a brown month with the leaves gone. Christmas lights are going up now all over town and wreaths and trees are for sale from roadside stands and trucks. Check out Stockton Springs Talks Facebook page for more information on local sellers.

With all of the latest pandemic outbreaks, this holiday season may be low key for most people. If getting together in person is not possible, consider all of the options for video calls that are available. Facebook has video capabilities if you are a member or cell phones have video capabilities. There are lots of fun Christmas movies on TV to watch now that will bring some Christmas spirit to you. Stay safe and healthy!

Thought for the week: “I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual.” — Henry David Thoreau.
