Lorraine R. Cross, 86, passed away Dec. 2, 2020, at her home in Belmont.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later time, probably during the summer of 2021, at the Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast. Urn burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Belmont. No current visitation hours will be held.

Lorraine was born in Belfast to Raymond and Lorena Ryan April 22, 1934. She attended Belfast Area High School and later earned her General Educational Development diploma. For most of her life she worked in the restaurant industry and at one time owned and operated The Beach Inn restaurant in Lincolnville. Lorraine enjoyed animals of all types and was an avid birdwatcher. She also was involved in Maine PBS.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Dana Hemenway of Walpole, N.H.; Dianne Dow of Plainfield, Ill.; Darrell Hemenway of Belmont; and Donna Schurick of White Plains, N.Y.; siblings, Jeannie Ryan of Northport, Janice Cobb of Belmont, Kenneth Ryan of Belmont and Shirley Hawes of Rockport; grandchildren, Christopher Dow of Chicago; Jonathan Dow of Plainfield, Ill.; Becky McCook of Jacksonville, Fla.; Katie Hemenway of Waldoboro; Jacqueline Schurick of Johnson City, Tenn.; and Elizabeth Schurick of White Plains, N.Y. Lorraine also left three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands William C. Hemenway Jr. and Wilfred Cross. She also was predeceased by siblings Raymond Ryan, Harriet McTaggart, Ronald Ryan, Richard Ryan and Roger Ryan.

Memorial donations in Lorraine’s name may be made to Maine Public Broadcasting, Lewiston. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Home Hospice Services of Rockport.
