WinterKids is a Maine-based non-profit which works to build healthy lifestyles in children through education and fun, outdoor activity, said Jesse Simko, rink manager at the Midcoast Recreation Center.

Simko said the group has created a WinterKids App, which acts like a mobile coupon book full of free or discounted opportunities for children to participate in winter activities with their family. A membership gives a family access to the offers in the App.

Normally, $35 for an annual membership, Simko said the group will allow families to "name-your-price" this year. When one signs-up, one can enter the amount that one would like to pay (including free).

WinterKids Education Foundation, based in Westbrook, has partnered with more than 60 recreation areas across Maine and New Hampshire, including three partners in the Midcoast, to obtain opportunities.

WinterKids has the support of Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport, Camden Snow Bowl and Sidecountry Sports in Rockland, Simko said.

Each of these recreation-based businesses have offers in the WinterKids App.

• Midcoast Recreation Center — Free youth public skate ticket with purchase of adult skate ticket.

• Camden Snow Bowl — Free junior lift ticket wit purchase of adult lift ticket.

• Sidecountry Sports — Save $20 on full ski or snowboard tune-up.

These, plus other offers, can be found in the WinterKids App. Sign-up a family today at WinterKids.org and make this winter one to remember, Simko said.

The WinterKids motto is: Move, Learn, Explore!

"It’s a great program and, ultimately, helps give kids discounts to our area and beyond, as well as getting them active," said Simko.
