Support accounting eduation

As an accounting professional and small-business owner, I am grateful to Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, for co-authoring the bipartisan STEM Education in Accounting Act. If successful, this bill designates accounting as a STEM subject, qualifying accounting education programs for K-12 grant funding under the Every Student Succeeds Act.

There is a great need in this state and country for qualified and talented accounting professionals. Yet like so many other important sectors, this career field faces a shortage of licensed, educated professionals needed for audits, accounting services, financing, tax preparation and even cyber security. Running a business requires sophisticated knowledge and skills. It is essential to employ an accountant who will understand your company’s complexities and who has the experience to put your finances in order.

I urge Sen. King and the rest of the delegation to support this important bill. If someone is considering a career in accounting, I would encourage you to join the field! The possibilities are endless, and the work is rewarding.

Church says thanks

In celebration of our recent holidays, a socially distanced Love Lights Tree-lighting ceremony was held at the First Church of Belfast.  Pastors the Rev. Dr. Kate Winters and the Rev. Joel Krueger led a reading of the names of loved ones who have passed but will always be remembered.

During a second holiday season impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, sharing memories of our dear family and friends is more meaningful than ever.  The funds raised — in memory of our loved ones — will be used by the church to help community members in need.

Many, many thanks to all who supported our 2021 fundraising for the Love Lights Tree.  Your belief in our work and community is so important.  We wish everyone a joyous new year — may you continue to enjoy the spirit of love and light!
