The Searsport basketball teams squared off with neighbors to the north — the Bucksport Golden Bucks and Sumner Tigers — and earned a split in the Friday, Jan. 29 high school court cases.

The Viking boys were downed by the Golden Bucks 57-43 in Searsport, while the girls emerged with a 47-34 victory over the Tigers in Sullivan.

On the season the Searsport girls are 2-2 and Vikings boys 1-3.

The following is a breakdown of both contests:


Bucksport 57, Searsport 43

At Searsport Jan. 29, the Golden Bucks built up a sizable first-quarter lead and held off the Vikings over the final three quarters en route to victory. Bucksport led 18-9, 27-23 and 42-34 at the quarter breaks.

Josh Wright led Searsport with 16 points, while Elias Higgins added seven; Tim Smith, five; Chase Brassbridge, Gabe Kneeland and Cole Ellis, four; and Cody Reynolds, three.

Ty Giberson poured in a game-high 30 points for Bucksport, while Colin Simpson added 10; Tyler Hallett, six; Kai Brown, five; Caden Blackwood, four; and Evan Donnell, two.

The Vikings were 5-of-10 (50 percent) from the foul line and Golden Bucks 3-of-4 (75 percent).

Searsport 47, Sumner 34

At Sullivan Jan. 29, the Vikings emerged with a 13-point win over the Tigers.

Makenzie Alley netted 27 points to lift Searsport, while Kyla Perkins added 10; Abby Astbury, four; and Sarah Gent and Emily Mello, three.

Brianna Flaherty scored 22 points for Sumner, while Makayla Bunker added six; Lillian Christiansen, three; Clara Christiansen, two; and Mia Richardson, one.

The Vikings finished 12-of-26 (46 percent) from the foul line and Tigers 3-of-8 (37 percent).
