The home teams defended their gymnasiums with pride on Monday, Feb. 1, as the Bucksport boys earned a 58-48 home win over Searsport, while the Viking girls emerged with a 44-27 victory over the Golden Bucks in Searsport.

In this pandemic-shortened high school court season, the SDHS girls are 3-2 and Viking boys 1-4.

The following is a recap of the games:


Bucksport 58, Searsport 48

At Bucksport Feb. 1, the Golden Bucks jumped to an early lead and rode that momentum to a 10-point win. Bucksport led 13-4, 29-10 and 46-25 at the quarter breaks.

Gage Ellis led the Vikings with 21 points, while Josh Wright added 14; Gabe Kneeland, four; Chase Brassbridge, three; and Ashton Ellis, Tim Smith and Cody Reynolds, two.

Ty Giberson paced the Golden Bucks with 22 points, while Evan Donnell added seven; Caden Blackwood and Tyler Hallett, six; Kai Brown, five; Owen Sherwood and Sione Taungatua, four; and Brandon Elder and Colin Simpson, two.

Searsport finished 7-of-15 (47 percent) from the charity stripe, while Bucksport was 4-of-9 (44 percent).


Searsport 44, Bucksport 27

At Searsport Feb. 1, the Vikings outscored the Golden Bucks during the four stanzas en route to a lopsided victory. Searsport, which used accurate free-throw shooting to nail down the victory, led 16-7, 24-14 and 37-24 at the quarter breaks.

Makenzie Alley netted 21 points for the winners, while Kyla Perkins added 10; Abby Astbury, seven; and Makenzie Tripp, Emily Mello and Emma Spiegel, two.

Kaylee Gray scored nine points to pace Bucksport, while Sara Bos added seven; Sam Cyr, six; Lanie Stubbs, four; and Mercedes Taungatua, one.

The Vikings finished 14-of-19 (74 percent) from the foul line and the Golden Bucks 3-of-9 (33 percent).
