A. Marie Hooper, known fondly as “Jackey,” passed away Feb. 2, 2021, at her daughter’s home in New Port Richey, Fla. She was 82. Born July 7, 1938, in Belmont, she was the daughter of Charles and Margaret (MacLeod) Simmons.

Jackey married the love of her life, Douglas Hooper, Nov. 17, 1955. They resided and raised their family in Belfast. They were married 59 years until Doug’s passing in 2015.

Jackey was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and crafting. She loved word puzzles and was an avid reader. She and Doug also enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their cottage on Lake St. George in Liberty and created many happy memories there.

Jackey will be remembered for her sense of humor and quick wit.

She was predeceased by all of her six siblings, Ola Ryan, Vena Mollison, Roye “Buster” Simmons, Elizabeth “Betty” Cyr, Diane Bieske and Sandra Lenfest. She is survived by her daughter, Lori Jones, and husband Bob; her son, Kevin Hooper; grandsons Jason and Ryan Jones; and sister-in-law Angie Simmons; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held in the summer at Grove Cemetery in Belfast.
