All in all, it was a tip-top night on the hardwood for Waldo County high school basketball teams on Friday, Feb. 12, witash three of the four squads in action collected victories.

The Belfast defeated Bucksport — as boys earned a 64-45 home win and girls a 38-24 road triumph — while the Mount View boys netted a 63-53 home victory over Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

The Mustang girls led the Huskies for much of the game, before the hosts went on a late fourth-quarter run to net a 47-42 win over the Mustangs in Pittsfield.

Thus far, the Belfast boys and girls have a 4-5 record, Mount View boys 6-3 and Mount View girls 4-5.

Boys

Belfast 64, Bucksport 45

At Belfast Feb. 12, the Lions pulled away from the Golden Bucks in the second half and prevailed by 19 points. Belfast led 9-7, 24-19 and 44-29 at the quarter breaks.

Jason Bartlett dumped in 24 points for Belfast, while Chris Kelley added 18; Chase Sanders, six; Tanner Veilleux, four; Eamon Goscinski and Drew Abelon, three; and Matt LeBlanc, Ethan Hall and Cole Martin, two.

Logan Stanley scored 12 points for Bucksport, while Colin Simpson and Ty Giberson added eight; Caden Blackwood, six; Evan Donnell, five; and Jakob Brezovsky, Kai Brown and Tyler Hallett, two.

The Lions did not attempt a free throw, while the Golden Bucks were 3-of-6 (50 percent).

Mount View 63, Maine Central Institute 53

At Thorndike Feb. 12, The Mustangs galloped out to a significant first-quarter lead and rode that momentum to a win over the Huskies. Mount View led 22-7, 37-23 and 51-37 at the quarter breaks.

Declan Knowlton scored 14 points for the winners, while Tyler Russell added 11; Noah Hurd, 10; Wyatt Evensen, eight; Draedyn Furrow and Sean Raven, seven; and Joe Grassi, five.

Timur Sabic scored 19 points for MCI, while Gavin McArthur added 13; Max Bottenfield, 10; Ryan Friend and Kaythean Martinez, four; and Parker St. Clair, three.

The Mustangs were 4-of-9 (44 percent) from the foul line, while the Huskies were 8-of-11 (72 percent).

Girls

Belfast 38, Bucksport 24

At Bucksport Feb. 12, the Lions outscored the Golden Bucks through the first three stanzas, which proved enough to net their third win of the campaign. Belfast led 13-5, 23-10 and 34-15 at the quarter breaks.

Lillie Mitchell led Belfast with an 11-point effort, while Madison Farris and Emma Waldron added six; Halle Tripp, five; Hailee Lindelof, four; and Lindsey Goughnour, Trista Bailey and Jaiden Philbrook, two. Kara Richards also had three rebounds and three steals for BAHS in the victory.

Kaylee Gray scored 13 points for Bucksport, while Samantha Cyr added five; Sara Bos, four; and Makenzi Brooks, two.

The Lions finished 6-of-12 (50 percent) from the foul line and Golden Bucks 9-of-16 (56 percent).

Maine Central Institute 47, Mount View 42

At Pittsfield Feb. 12, the Huskies went on an 11-6 run in the fourth quarter, which proved the difference in a win over the Mustangs. Mount View led 14-11 after the first quarter and 25-19 at halftime, while the squads were tied 36-36 after three stanzas.

Kricket Thompson poured in 19 points for Mount View, while Hannah Coolen added 15 and Syd Vogel and Hannah Ferriera four. Thompson also grabbed 11 rebounds and Coolen five.

Hannah Robinson and Danielle Dow scored 14 points to key MCI, while Natalie Sites added nine; Ella Bernier, four; Ruby Kitchen, three; and Natalie Hodgins, one.

The Mustangs were 11-of-14 (79 percent) from the foul line and Huskies 11-of-20 (55 percent).
