Riley's wish

The fourth annual Riley's Wish Ice Fishing Derby will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, at Lake Saint George with registration starting at 8 a.m. at the Liberty Boat Launch off Route 3.

The event honors Riley Boulay, who loved all things outdoors and who died Dec. 6, 2017. This year because of COVID-19, the state has canceled all outdoor activities at the state park. Unfortunately, because of the regulations in place, all games associated with Riley's Wish have been postponed until next year.

The Ice Fishing Derby and a prize for each child 12 years and under who registers for the event are still happening. For more information, check out "4th Annual Riley's Wish Winter Games & Derby" on Facebook. See you there.

Help bring broadband to Waldo County

The Maine Broadband Coalition is collecting information on internet speeds and is encouraging residents to take a one-minute speed test at tinyurl.com/7w89w06r.

The speed testing initiative is the crucial next step in ensuring the delivery of broadband throughout the state and will help local, regional and state leaders develop projects and steer investments to the places that need it most. The data collected will help inform where the bond funding, approved by Maine voters in July, can have the most impact.

Participants can submit results with complete confidentiality and view their results, as well as the public map displaying all results gathered to date.

That's about it for this week!
