As one Viking crept closer to reaching 1,000 points for her high school basketball career, Searsport court teams earned a split on the hardwood on Thursday, Feb. 18 when the Vikings squared off with neighboring Bucksport.

The home teams emerged victorious as the Viking girls collected a 41-32 win over the Golden Bucks in Searsport, while the Viking boys were downed 54-29 at Bucksport.

At this point, the Searsport girls are 4-4 and Viking boys 1-7.

Girls

Searsport 41, Bucksport 32

At Searsport Feb. 18, the Vikings netted a nine-point win over the Golden Bucks. Searsport led 11-3, 21-11 and 35-19 at the quarter breaks.

Makenzie Alley, a senior who is closing in on 1,000 points for her high school court career, scored 25 for Searsport, while Kyla Perkins and Emma Spiegel added six and Sarah Gent and Emily Mello two.

Kaylee Gray tallied 16 points for Bucksport, while Samantha Cyr added nine; Sara Bos, four; and Makenzi Brooks, three.

The Vikings were 3-of-6 (50 percent) from the foul line, while the Golden Bucks were 9-of-14 (64 percent).

According to longtime Viking coach Mel Grant, Alley is 24 points from reaching 1,000 points in her high school career.

The Vikings will host Sumner of Sullivan on Friday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m., and, additionally, have a few more regular-season and postseason games on their schedule.

Alley sat at 899 career points before she tallied 20 against Belfast on Saturday, Feb. 13, 32 in an exhibition game against Camden Hills on Monday, Feb. 15 and 25 on Thursday, Feb. 18 against Bucksport.

Boys

Bucksport 54, Searsport 29

At Bucksport Feb. 18, the Golden Bucks went on a 25-4 third-quarter run and surged past the visiting Vikings. Searsport led 9-8 after the first quarter, while Bucksport led 16-15 at halftime and 41-19 after three quarters.

Caden Blackwood scored 14 points for Bucksport, while Ty Giberson added 10; Logan Stanley, eight; Kai Brown and Colin Simpson, six; Evan Donnell, four; and Owen Sherwood, Nick Baubonis and Kamryn Webber, two.

Josh Wright netted 19 points for Searsport, while Tim Smith added four and Cole Ellis and Gage Ellis three.

The Golden Bucks finished 9-of-10 (90 percent) from the foul line, while the Vikings were 2-of-4 (50 percent).
