A person associated with Waldo County Technical Center has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a message sent Wednesday evening to staff, parents and students, WCTC Director Kevin Michaud said starting Thursday, April 15, there would be no classes or activities at the facility for the remainder of the week. Classes will resume April 26, after spring break.

Michaud told The Republican Journal the school has begun the process of contacting individuals who were close contacts.

"Our nurse, who is in charge of the contact tracing process, has an extremely full platter, but we've been able to get ahold of many of those close contacts already, through previously established collaborative networks within our school systems," he said.

Michaud said the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention will be notified, as is required in such cases.
