Hopefully, all the mothers out there will have a great Mother’s Day! My mother, Eleanor, has been gone since 2014 and I always miss her on Mother’s Day. The next holiday will be Memorial Day on Monday, May 31. There is usually a memorial service at the Town Park in town with the American Legion. I will put more information in my column when I get it.

I just returned from a trip to the Carolinas to visit both of my sisters and their husbands. It was the first time I'd seen them in over two years because of the Pandemic. Both of my airline flights were almost full with everyone masked up.

Restrictions in South Carolina were more relaxed and I was surprised on going into McLeod’s Produce Stand in McBee to see people in the store without masks. In North Carolina, more people were wearing masks but even in some restaurants, people were maskless when entering the building.

Temperatures were already in the low 80s and high 70s, and everything was very green. I even experienced a tornado warning while in Charlotte, which is a first for me. Lots of people were on the beach in Myrtle Beach enjoying the sunshine and warm weather. It was wonderful to see my family again in real life and not just on Zoom.

A lot of the moorings in the harbor are now ready for boats to be tied up to. All the dandelions are blooming, so the hummingbirds must be here. My daffodils have exploded with blooms and my tulips are ready. Trees are sporting the pale yellow greens and small red leaves of spring.

Spring is all about rebirth and re-energizing, both outdoors and within yourself. After this past year, the roaring 2020s will be upon us with people wanting to get out and have fun. So get out and enjoy one of these gorgeous sunny days!
