Wishing a very happy birthday to Janet Ihnken on June 20. Happy birthday to Tanya Flood on June 21. Hope you have a really great birthday.

Volunteer Fire Department notes

Activity for the department has been quiet lately. That’s fine with your firefighters.

It is becoming dryer and dryer each day, so please take extra care in preventing fires. Call 911 immediately should you spot an out-of-control fire.

Remember also that there will NOT be an auction this year so please do not drop items off to the storage trailer.

Our firefighter profile this week is Jon Fontaine, a department volunteer for 14 years. As Jon states, he was sucked into the department by now Capt. Brain Simmons. Jon has attended many basic and advanced fire and rescue courses over those 14 years. He currently is the chief engineer/lieutenant of the department, responsible for apparatus operator training and certification. Jon is married. He and wife Penny have two children, one of whom is also a firefighter and will be profiled soon.

We all owe Jon and all first responders a thank-you when we see them for volunteering their time and energy making our community safer.

Finally, our Ladies Auxiliary also needs volunteers. The time commitment is very minimal: four or five meetings a year, help host a children’s visit with Santa in December, and usually work on one or two fundraisers a year. Call Tina at 322-6184 or Irene at 323-9742 for more details. Their next meeting will be soon. Come see what they are doing for your town.

You all have a wonderful week and just remember to watch out for all the children; school is now out and they will be out about having fun. So please keep them safe.

You all have a fabulous week and weekend.

Quote of the week

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something. So that’s my wish…. Don’t freeze don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life. Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, do it. Make your mistakes, next year and forever.” — Neil Gaiman
