From Linda Gamble of the Prospect Community Club:

The Prospect Community Club is planning to restart their Baked Bean Suppers on Saturday, July 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. The cost this year is $10 for adults and $2 for age 12 and under.

Except for the beans, hot dogs, beverages and pickles, all foods are donated to help keep the costs down. We have lost some of our food contributors this year, so if you or someone you know would like to donate a dessert, casserole or yeast rolls, please contact Linda Gamble at 567-3615 or Barbie Tilley at 567-3267 so that we may add your name and phone number to our list of donations.

The suppers are the main fundraiser for the group, which in a normal year delivers May baskets to seniors and home-bound on May 1, hosts a luncheon for veterans after all the local parades on Memorial Day, offers the Raymond Webster Scholarship to a graduating Prospect high school senior, and hosts a Children’s Christmas Party for the children of Prospect.

The building is maintained for use not only for the suppers, but also for the public to rent for parties, and it is used by the town for meetings when more space is needed than the Town Office can provide. Expenses consist of taxes, insurance, electricity, heat and building maintenance.

Speaking of the Raymond Webster Scholarship Fund, there was only one applicant this year: Colby Terry, son of David and Dian Terry and grandson of Tim and Dee Terry. This is a $500 scholarship, which is paid after the first completed semester (the student must pass, but dean’s list is not required). The money goes directly to the student, not their school, so it can be used for expenses such as books, food, transportation or tuition.

Anyone who wishes can gather with Community Club members for free coffee and usually a treat on Wednesdays from 1 until 2:30 p.m. We welcome any and all to join us.
