Independence Day events gets off to an early start this year in Brooks and Searsport.

In Brooks, the town is reviving Community Park with a daylong “Come Home to the Park” celebration Saturday, July 3, that ends with an advance holiday fireworks display lighting the sky at 9 p.m. (Bring chairs or blankets.)

In Searsport, the town’s 175th anniversary celebration — delayed a year by the pandemic — coincides with the holiday weekend, and includes a parade July 3, stepping off from Norris Street at 11 a.m. and continuing to Mortland Road.

Brooks’ annual parade takes place as usual July 4, beginning at 10 a.m. by the Varney Building and marching through the center of town.

In Belfast, the Parks and Recreation Department presents the eighth annual “Songs of America” show July 4 at noon at Park on Main (just below Rollies), with vocals, instrumentals, speeches and watermelon! Admission is free.

And at 9 p.m. July 4, as the town’s 175th anniversary celebration grand finale, Searsport promises the “biggest show of fireworks Searsport has ever had” at Mosman Park. (Bring chairs or blankets.)

Happy Fourth of July to all!
