BELMONT — Clyde W. Wellman Sr., 82, passed away unexpectedly at home June 21, 2021.  He was born April 15, 1939, son of Otto and Charlotte Wellman.

After graduating from Crosby High School in Belfast in 1958, he joined the Navy, where he served for 20 years and retired as a machinist’s mate, master chief petty officer (E9).  He and his family returned to Maine, where they purchased a small farm in Belmont.  He loved working the farm and sharing the vegetables from his big gardens with his family and friends.

Clyde worked for the town of Belmont for 20 years, holding various titles, such as administrative assistant, deputy treasurer, animal control officer and road commissioner, as well as being a member of the town’s Volunteer Fire Department.

Clyde is survived by his wife of 63 years, Verlesta (Hills) Wellman; sons Clyde Jr. and his wife, Anita, and Ronald and his wife, Holly; granddaughter Maranda and her husband, Noah LaForge; and his sister, Joyce Sweetman, and brother, Leroy Wellman.

He was predeceased by his parents, his daughters Cheryl and Teresa, a son, Michael, brothers Otto Jr. and Paul, and a sister, Lucille Nickerson.

Graveside services with military honors will be held Saturday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. at Hills Cemetery in Lincolnville.  A celebration of life will be held directly after the service at Belmont Community Center, 613 Back Belmont Road, Belmont.  Memories and condolences may be shared at ripostafh.com.
