By the beautiful sea — From “Illustrated Belfast,” published in 1903: “Belfast is justly celebrated for all the desirable features in home-life. Possessing a great many natural advantages, the acquired ones have been modern and harmonious. Language, often times, is inadequate to correct understanding. For instance, the city rests upon an embankment that by gentle incline reaches the shore of one of the most beautiful bays in the world, a bay that has been likened to that of Naples, to be sure we have a rather dreamy idea of a noble bay, surmounted by warm-tinted sky effects, but language would fail to depict its beauties.”
